Section 11.1 - Geometry Definitions

Geometry, like many branches of mathematics, starts off with definitions. In this section, we're going to define the basic terms and relationships that we'll use throughout the rest of the chapter.

Lectures

Geometry, like most math fields, starts off with definitions. We'll start with points, lines and planes then extend them to segments and rays. (lecture slides)
If you take two rays and join them together at their endpoint, you'll get an angle. In this lecture, we're going to look at the definition and the ways angles are classified based on their sizes. (lecture slides)
Moving up from a single angle, we can look at pairs of angles and talk about the relationships between them. We're going to look at those relationships and then see some examples where they're used. (lecture slides)

Explorations

Every once in a while, I'll get asked, “Where do math definitions come from?” In this video, we'll talk about the two places definitions and their cousin, postulates, come from.
