Solving Rational Inequalities

Quick Navigation Video Lectures

Rational inequalities can be solved using the same method that's used for solving polynomial inequalities - you just have to include the factors of the denominator in the process.

  1. move all of the expressions onto one side so the other side is 0
  2. combine the rational expressions into one
  3. factor the numerator and denominator
  4. set the individual factors equal to 0 and solve
  5. test a point from each interval created by the solutions from (4) to see which intervals are part of the solution and which aren't

Video Lectures

The process that we'll see here for solving rational inequalities is exactly the same as the one for solving polynomial inequalities but you have to include the factors of the denominator in the process. (lecture slides)
