Equations with Fractional Exponents

Quick Navigation Video Lectures

Radical equations come in two forms: ones that have an actual radical or root and ones that have the radical written using a fractional exponents. Technically, you can always switch back and forth between the two forms but that isn't necessary if you use the appropriate solution method. In these two lectures, we're going to look at methods for solving equations with fractional exponents - first by factoring them and then by making a substitution that eliminates the fractional part of the exponents.

Video Lectures

One method for solving radical equations where the radicals are written as fractional exponents involves either factoring them or raising both sides of the equation to an appropriate power that eliminates both radicals at once.
In this lecture, we're going to look at a method for manipulating a radical equation in such a way that the radical parts go away, leaving us with a polynomial equation.
