White Crane Education

crane logoWhat can you say about the integers: 1, 2, 3, 4, ... and their negatives. They seem really simple at first but, when you dig a little deeper, they show a lot more complexity than you'd ever expect. The study of the integers and their properties is a branch of mathematics called number theory.

Classroom Format and Style

To achieve the goal of showing the material in both "math speak" and English, I'm going to present the core ideas in two different versions, side by side. One version will be in the technically correct language of mathematics. The other will be an "English translation".

Links that are in an olive green are "definition links". when you click on one a pop-up window will appear that gives the definition or some additional information about the item, similar to a footnote in a paper book.

Browser Issues
All of White Crane Education's classrooms include substantial interactive content. This includes exercises that display the answer on request, dynamic exercises that are randomly generated (giving you access to literally tens of thousands of different problems on a single page) and Java applets that provide highly interactive, graphic exercises and examples. To use these features your browser needs to have JavaScript enabled (almost all do by default) and at least version 1.5 of Sun's Java run time. If you're not sure if you have it or not, go to this page on Sun's website and click on the "Verify Installation" button. This will get the version your browser is currently using and give you a link to download the latest version if you don't already have it.
