What can you say about the integers: 1, 2, 3, 4, ... and their negatives. They seem really simple at first but, when you dig a little deeper, they show a lot more complexity than you'd ever expect. The study of the integers and their properties is a branch of mathematics called number theory.
To achieve the goal of showing the material in both "math speak" and English, I'm going to present the core ideas in two different versions, side by side. One version will be in the technically correct language of mathematics. The other will be an "English translation".
Links that are in an olive green are "definition links". when you click on one a pop-up window will appear that gives the definition or some additional information about the item, similar to a footnote in a paper book.
